This is just a quick post for the music lovers out there. Sometimes there is nothing better than driving down the road in your RV with some great music playing while having a full on sing along. The RV awning is one of our favorite accessories on the RV. When we arrive at our destination, it’s one of the first things that gets pulled down. We also use the awning to liven up our camp space a little by adding fun lights and a flag. Under the awning is where we spend a lot of time when we are traveling so it is also very important to us.
So what if something happens to your awning while you are camping? I’ll go over what you can do in this post. Last week was spring break for a lot of people in the US, including our best friends. During their spring break, they decided to camp at a Topsail Hill Preserve in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida-a state park in the Florida panhandle. They took Priscilla, their 35 foot 2007 Class A Itasca for the trip.
Although it was beautiful weather for them the first two days, a storm came in by the third day and continued to rain for two days straight. One of the afternoons was especially rainy and dumped several inches of rain in a very short time frame. Unfortunately, Priscilla’s awning was still up and not tilted enough to allow the water to run off. By the time the rain had stopped, Dawn went out to assess the damage and found a bent awning frame from the weight of the water.
Luckily she has insurance which took care of the damage with a $500 deductible, and she chose this route because her awning issue was extreme with awning tube and frame were bent. In another post, I will cover replacing the whole awning, but what if you just need to replace the awning fabric or if you just want to do the repairs yourself?
RV Awning Fabric Replacement
Make sure you have the proper rv awning fabric replacement size
According to RV Helpdesk:
First and foremost you need to know that there are safety issues involved with working on an awning.
The torsion spring inside the tube must be unwrapped and it can be quite dangerous.
If you are not mechanically inclined with “good” hands please take it to a professional.
You will need at least 2 people and it will be easier with 3.
